Demolition & Asbestos Removal

overview

Successfully completed large scale demolition and asbestos removal work surrounded by live tenancies, including a bank and medical facility and live mall areas, incident and interruption free.

Structural Demolition –

Demolition of existing concrete stairs, lift shafts, ramps, and multiple penetrations through suspended concrete slabs.

Removal of 55 concrete spandrel panels lifted by crane from Level 1 and 2, ranging from 3ton – 8ton each. Closing a portion of Adelaide St and adjoining Malls/Lane Ways was required to execute these works.

All works included concrete cutting, engineering, and propping.

Asbestos Removal -

Extensive Asbestos related works occurred throughout this project, including both Friable and Non-Friable Removal, Sampling and Investigation work and surrounding ‘Live Area’ monitoring.

Completed over 5 stages, 1900m2 of concrete topping slab was removed under full Friable conditions, as a raw asbestos insulation was present between the topping slab and structural slab. Approximately 300ton of asbestos contaminated concrete was removed by hand within the Friable enclosures and received zero elevated fibre counts while conducting Air Monitoring.

Overspray of the raw asbestos insulation was also identified on the backs of the concrete spandrel panels that had to be removed. Decontamination of the entire panels was successfully completed during the topping slab works.
